Hidden Health Benefits of Quail Eggs

Quail eggs are not a delicacy many people talk or even know about. This, as nutritionist Jamiru Mpiima of Family Nutritionist Uganda says, is because there is little known knowledge about their nutrition benefits.

“Research is still on going to find out the true nutrition value of these eggs,” he says.


However, according to Wilson Kirabira of the Uganda Dietetic Association (UDA), quail eggs have a high nutritional value, and the public is encouraged to consume them regularly. According to him, quail eggs are richer in vitamins and minerals compared to chicken eggs. “Quail eggs contain 13 per cent protein compared to 11 per cent found in chicken eggs. They also contain 140 per cent of Vitamin B1, compared to 50 per cent found in chicken eggs,” he says.

Kirabira says quail eggs are known to help fight allergy symptoms because of the ovomucoid protein that is contained in them. Here, we list some of the benefits.

Brain stimulator
Kirabira further states that quail eggs are known to promote good memory by enhancing brain activity and regulating the nervous system.

Fights cancer
Besides stimulating the brain, Kirabira says quail eggs have carcinogenic elements that prohibit the growth of various types of cancer.

Beauty and hair care
Because of their ability to improve skin colour and strengthen hair by making it shiny, Kirabira says quail eggs are often used in facial and hair care masks and other beauty products.

Stomach ulcer management
For people with stomach ulcers, quail eggs can be crucial as it acts as a natural combatant against digestive tract disorders.

Fights anaemia
Quail eggs also help in fighting anaemia, by increasing the level of haemoglobin in the body while removing toxins and heavy metals that could be in the body.
This benefit is why it is also recommended for pregnant women since they are at high risk of becoming anaemic.

Other diseases
People who suffer from diseases such as tuberculosis, bronchial asthma, diabetes and vegetative-vascular dystonia are encouraged to include quail eggs in their day-to-day diet.

Expert take
According Wilson Kirabira of the Uganda Dietetic Association (UDA), if children eat at least two quail eggs everyday, they become healthier and strong, and are less likely to suffer from common infectious diseases.
