How to Get Rid of Flies Quickly (Inside and Outside)
This is how you can build your own safe and effective all-natural fly trap!
It traps the flies by using their basic instincts against them. Their powerful affinity to the stimulus of odor and light will actually draw them into the trap. They can’t escape and can be disposed of at your convenience.
1. Fruit Trap
This trap doesn’t kill the flies (the trap below does though), but it will capture them effectively. You can then decide how to dispose of them. All you need to do for this is just put rotting/semi-rotting fruit in a bowl!
- Fruit, overripe or rotten (flies are attracted to rotten food)
- Bowl
- Plastic wrap
- A pair of scissors
- Toothpick
- Place chopped up rotten fruit in a bowl
- Peel and chop up whatever rotten fruit you’ll be using roughly.
- You can also just break it into pieces before placing it in the bowl so you can attract the flies.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap
- Stretch the plastic wrap tightly over the top of the bowl.
- Poke several holes into the plastic wrap
- Poke several holes into the plastic wrap using a toothpick and in that way, you’ll allow the smell of the rotten fruit to escape. The flies will be attracted to the smell.
- Put the fruit trap wherever you need to.
- When you think you’ve attracted enough flies, put the whole bowl into soapy water for several minutes in order to kill the flies.
- Rinse the bowl and set the trap again.
- Prepare several traps and put them around your home.
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is actually fermented apple juice. Rotting or fermenting fruits are a real delicacy for flies. A variety of flies can be lured with ACV.
If you add a little bit of dish soap to the ACV, it will make the trap deadlier. The surface tension of the liquid will be broken by the dish soap and it will make the flies sink on contact and eliminate any chance of survival.
Things you’ll need:
- 2 cups apple cider vinegar (we recommend this) – smell of ACV attracts flies
- 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap – flies sink and drown in dish soap
- Mason jar
- Plastic wrap
- Toothpick
- Mix ACV and dish soap in a Mason jar
- Pour 2 cups of ACV into a Mason jar.
- Then, add 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap to it.
- Secure the mouth of the jar with plastic wrap
- Stretch a piece of plastic wrap over the mouth of the Mason jar to seal it completely.
- Poke several holes into the plastic wrap
- Use a toothpick to make multiple punctures in the plastic wrap and you’ll let the flies into the trap. The smell of ACV will guide them into the trap.
- Place the trap wherever you want to. When you notice the flies are dead inside, get rid of them and clean the jar.
Cloves have a scent that flies can’t stand. When combined with lemon, you’ll get an all-natural fly repellent that’s safe and effective.
I like to use this in summertime whenever I’m eating outside on the deck, I put it on and around the table I’m serving food.
Things you’ll need:
- Lemons
- Cloves
Stuff the cloves into the pulp of the lemon:
- Cut a fresh lemon into halves.
- Stick the cloves into the pulp of the lemon halves, while you’re keeping the bulbs on the surface.
