How to Choose a Proper Toothbrush?

Toothbrushes come in various shapes, colors size. Each one of them promises that it can outperform the previous one. Raised bristles, oscillating tufts, angled heads, name it and they have it. However, lab tests haven’t proven that a particular toothbrush cleans better than the other. What matters is how you brush and for how long. Most people brush less than a minute when two or three minutes are required per session.

The proper toothbrush?

Ideally, the toothbrush’s head must be small to reach all tight areas. Pick one with a long handle for a firm grasp and pick soft bristles with round ends to protect your gums.

How often should I change my toothbrush?

The toothbrush must be changed before the bristles become splayed and frayed. Old brushes are ineffective and they might have numerous harmful bacteria that can cause infections and diseases.

Toothbrushes should be change between three to four months or even more often. People with sicknesses should change them shortly after the treatment has finished.

How to Brush?

Every individual should brush his teeth between two and three minutes, two times a day. To get the best results, simply listen to a song while doing this chore and wait for the it to finish. According to recent surveys, most people brush their teeth for only 45 to 70 seconds a day

Manual vs Electric toothbrush

Electric toothbrushes aren’t more effective than the manual. What they are better at is the fact that they can motivate some people to brush their teeth more often.

The advantage is that they can clean a larger area more quickly. They are recommended for elderly people, individuals with braces and for those who have limited manual dexterity.

However, the electric brushes must be properly cleaned after every use and their batteries could cause problems if they are not charged in the proper moment.

How do they work?

Common electric toothbrushes use tufts of nylon bristles to clean teeth with a rotary motion. The first use of an electric brush can cause bleeding from your gums. You must learn to control the brush and the bleeding will stop.

However, children under the age of 10 should be supervised throughout the whole cleaning process. Don’t press the tufts against your teeth for a better effect. Use light force and allow the bristle to do its job.
