Staying in Your Bed for So Long Might be Harmful to your Health. Here’s Why.

Aside from sleeping, probably for an average of 7 hours a day, we still stay on our beds, may it be while working on our laptops, browsing on our smartphones, or cuddling our loved ones.

Several hours each day were apparently spent on our bed. Approximately, 1/3 of our lives happened on it.

But it appears that our comfort zone pose some danger to our health unknowingly. While lying down to rest, we are actually exposing our helpless bodies to different risks that may effect us mildly to severe.

Here are some of the harmful threats our favorite beds might cause us.

1. Lice

If you wake up with little bites and red spots, you may have lice in your mattress.

2. Bacteria

When your mattress is quite too old, bacteria and molds might grew there. These bacteria can cause severe infections in humans, many of which might be resistant to antibiotics! Change your mattress every seven years.

3. Toxic chemicals

The chemicals that are used in some mattresses are usually dangerous to our health such as formaldehyde, boracic acid and modacrylic. The main purpose of which is to make it fire-resistant

These may cause allergies and worse, may even cause cancer. Formaldehyde is known to cause whooping cough and chest pain. Try to invest with organic one.

4. Dust mites

There is about 100,000 and 1.5 million dust mites that could be found in your mattress. They are not actually harmful but their feces are. This could trigger allergy among asthmatics. You should vacuum it regularly to avoid such allergic reaction.

5.  Mold

Under certain condition, molds may form under your mattress. Spores from mold can cause headaches, coughing, and asthma attacks. Keep your mattress dry and air it out regularly. Once mold started to form underneath, buy a new one.

6. Bed bugs

Cimicids, also known as bed bugs, are tiny creatures that like to take up residence in people’s beds. They don’t carry diseases, but they will bite you as many as 500 times per night! The bites can be very itchy and could even cause eczema. Spray your mattress with diluted rubbing alcohol to get rid of them.
