Taking Painkillers Regularly could Increase your Cardiac Arrest Risk

A side effect to commonly-used painkillers after first week of regular use could be the most worrying of all side effects. 

Based on a new study, taking painkillers like Ibuprofen regularly, even for one week, could increase your risk for heart attack between 24-58 percent. 

The study, which was conducted by an international team of researchers, claimed that after taking high dose of these painkillers in a regular basis, the risks of heart attack could possibly happen in your first month prior to consumption. 

Ibuprofen, and the like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, were usually available over-the-counter.

Michèle Bally, leader of the research team of the University of Montreal Hospital Research Centre in Canada, said that any dose of such in one week, one month or more than one month elevates the risk for having myocardial infarction/heart attack. 

450,000 people constituted the said study that was published in the British Medical Journal, 61,460 of the participants suffered the side effect. 

Dr. Bally shared that the small escalation on the risk for heart attack should not be ignored as use of painkillers is widespread.
