Stay Away from These Foods If You Have Stomach Ulcers

Stomach ulcers are open sores on the stomach lining also known as gastric ulcer or the upper part of the small intestine (duodenal ulcer). Those who have stomach ulcers take antibiotics and antacids to reduce the symptoms. It’s also important for stomach ulcers patients to know what to eat and what not to eat so as not to exacerbate the problem i.e. gas, vomiting, indigestion, burning sensation and nausea.

If you have stomach ulcers, stay away from the following:

Alcohol
Stay away from alcohol if you suffer from this condition as it adds more acid into the stomach. Also, alcoholics stand a high risk to develop peptic ulcer.

Coffee
Coffee or any product that has caffeine worsens the stomach ulcer problem.

Spicy Foods
Spicy foods irritate your stomach lining as they increase the acid in the stomach, this worsens the condition of the ulcer.

Red Meat
Red meat may not irritate the stomach lining but it has high protein and fat content and this means that it takes longer to breakdown and digest. Unfortunately, this leads to the release of more acid in the stomach and this worsens the condition.

Carbonated Drinks
Fizzy drinks should not be taken by people with peptic ulcer as they have too much citric acid and this increases acidity levels in the stomach.

Milk
Many people drink milk to alleviate the stomach ulcer problem but this method does not work as milk has high protein and fat content, the worst combination if you have peptic ulcer.

Avoid these foods but also consume more of beans, fish, egg, vegetables, lean meats, grains and fruits.
