Use This Kitchen Ingredient to Heal Your Wounds
Surgeons have turned to a 4000 year old technique used in Egypt to heal some wounds. This old method is being used today and it still works. Based on some recent studies, sugar is effective in healing wounds because it draws water from the wound through osmosis. This process dries the wound, disinfects it and promotes the development of new tissue.
Why Sugar Works
Bacteria cannot survive without moisture as they will die from dehydration. This means that the bacteria will not reproduce and will disappear completely. For better results, you can mix the sugar with honey; this mixture has improved penetration and antibacterial properties.
There are many ways to use sugar as a wound healer and here are some of the most common ways:
Apply a simple salve to the wound and cover with a loose cloth or bandage. Make sure that the wound is not bleeding before applying the sugar.
In an emergency, apply sugar granules all over the affected area to avoid a serious infection. Wash the wound with clean water before reapplying sugar.
Mix the sugar with a 10 percent mixture of povidone iodine and apply directly onto the wound.
Mix two tablespoons of sugar with glycerin to create a thick paste. After applying the gauze, cover it with petroleum jelly.
Sugar treats different types of wounds. Leave the wound open especially if it’s a puncture wound.
