The Keto Diet is the Best Since It Cures Autism, Cancer, Depression and Migraine

The drastic rise in autism leads me to believe that our modern lifestyle plays a role in the development of the disorder. Recent research looked at ketogenic diets and their potential benefits to treating autism.

This paper looked at 8 studies, 5 of which were human studies and 3 of which were studies performed on animals.

The study concluded by stating “The limited number of reports of improvements after treatment with the KD is insufficient to attest to the practicability of the KD as a treatment for ASD, but it is still a good indicator that this diet is a promising therapeutic option for this disorder”.

What is a keto diet?

A ketogenic diet requires that 50 to 70 percent of your food intake come from beneficial fats, such as coconut oil, grass-pastured butter, organic pastured eggs, avocado, and raw nuts such as pecans and macadamia nuts.

The carbs are very very minimal so your body burns fat for energy. That means there is a little sugar in your system blocking the body from utilizing fat in favor of burning sugar.

During this state, the body produces ketones, made from fats processed in the liver.

Other Health Benefits of a Keto Diet

1. Weight loss

Cutting carbs is one of the simplest and most effective ways to lose weight.
On a ketogenic diet, dietary carbohydrates are kept very low, protein is moderate and fat consumption is increased, gently encouraging our body to remember how to rely on fat as a primary fuel and to produce ketones from stored body fat.

2. Fights cancer

Cancer cells love sugar! Sugar essentially feeds cancer cells and encourages cancer growth. This is why a diet that gets rid of sugar and other carbohydrates can be effective in preventing or fighting cancer.

The regular cells found in our bodies are able to use fat for energy, but cancer cells cannot metabolically shift to use fat.

One review published in Redox Biology indicated promising results for colon, gastric, and prostate cancers. According to this review, ketone bodies stop cancers by changing the availability of energy processes in cancer cells.

3. Protects your brain

The low-carb, high-fat diet has also been linked to helping with other neurological disorders. Research published in Behavioral Pharmacology found ketogenic diets may be effective for minimizing symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

In one study, Parkinson’s patients who followed ketogenic diet experienced, on average, a 43{30e6b8360db511af0e1f77984c542ff30ea10c4b009d596ff6d5f40eac675d71} improvement in their symptoms after one month.

Studies also support the benefits of a ketogenic diet for autism.  According to one article, autism shares some features with epilepsy, and many people with autism experience seizures related to the over-excitement of brain cells.

The research found that a majority of autistic children showed improvement after following a cyclical ketogenic diet for six months.
